Single Intraday Coupling (SIDC) creates a single EU cross-zonal intraday electricity market. In simple terms, active market participants are able to trade electricity continuously on the intraday market across European borders.
The first wave was launched in June 2018 and included 15 countries. A second go-live was achieved in November 2019, adding seven new countries to the system. Now, Italy can also profit from the many advantages of the SIDC solution, such as higher liquidity.
Future plans of the SIDC include the integration of Greece (2022) and Slovakia (end of 2022). Aside from geographical expansion, the SIDC is also focusing on new features such as cross-product matching and intraday auctions (with cross-zonal capacity pricing).
PowerBot has been compatible with SIDC since its start in 2018, providing high volatility and enabling our users to focus on (algorithmic) intraday trading, without worrying about the changes that come with SIDC. The integration of Italy into the SIDC opens further opportunities for energy trading companies. We as PowerBot are following the launch of an API at the Italian power exchange company GME with high interest. If you would be interested in an integration of PowerBot into GME, do not hesitate to get in touch with us.
